Board of Directors

As set out in the Articles of Association, the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters A.G. is administered by seven members elected by the General Assembly of Members, which last two years in office. Directors perform this function on a voluntary basis, ad-honorem, without receiving any compensation and in strict compliance with the provisions of the Articles of Association and the highest ethical standards.

 
  • IRENE DE MARCHI ZAHARIJA – PRESIDENT

    A graduate of the English and French translation program at the Catholic University of Chile (1980), with a Certificate in Creative Literature (Narrative) of the same University (2014). With a wide experience translating documents of the social and scientific areas, particularly all kind of legal and financial documents. Currently registered as an expert translator with two Courts of Appeals of the Judicial Branch, in Santiago and in Punta Arenas, also performing as translator for the Office of the General Prosecutor of Chile. At Quiñenco S.A. (Luksic Group) since 1999, holding the position of Assistant for several Executive Officers, currently with the Communications and Corporate Affairs area. Her term started in April 2018 until April, 2020.

  • JENNIFER METCALFE HYSLOP – VICE PRESIDENT

    A graduate of the Social Anthropology program, National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH), Mexico. Her experience as a translator dates back to 1970 with extensive experience in translating texts in human and social sciences, coupled with considerable experience in legal and financial texts. She is also skilled in text editing and has translated ten books in fields such as public policy and politics, pollution, women and gender issues, education, human rights and the arts, both into English and Spanish. In the past, she worked as a permanent translator for different international organizations. As of 1990, she works solely as a free-lance translator. Based on her training in Anthropology, she carried out research and teaching in Mexico. She has full command of English, learned in childhood.

  • Jearim Magdalena Contreras Godoy – Secretary at COTICH

    French-Spanish Translator, Universidad de Concepción. She worked as an independent translator since 1995 to 2000. At the same time, she worked as interpreter-tourist guide for French-speakers and specialize groups (like enologists, journalists, students, etc.). She has also been trained in the field of librarian economy and since 2002 she has been working half day in the “Mediateca” of French Institute in Santiago. According to her new labour obligations she has made translation and interpretation work for the cultural activities of the Institute. Her Labour Specialization is in the field of Social Science, Literature and Education. She was part of the “Tecnolog” Universidad Jaume I Castellón de la Plana, Spain.

  • Fernando López Reyes – Treasurer

    Top level technician in Administration and Sourcing. He is a graduate of English-Spanish Translation with a minor on International Trade and has a Bachelor degree in Languages and Literature from Universidad Tecnológica de Chile INACAP. He is licensed in International Public Sector Accounting Standards NICSP, course imparted by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. He has received training on assisted translations with OmegaT at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and a course of correction of style and variations of the Spanish language at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona. Additionally, he has worked as freelance translator in areas such as industry and translation of technical manuals. His current period as treasurer of the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters (COTICH) covers from April, 2018 until April, 2020.

  • Cristián Araya – Director

    I am a graduate of Translation from English-French into Spanish and hold a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Linguistics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. I also hold a degree in University Specialist in English and Spanish Translation: specialized languages from Universidad de Valladolid and a Master of Arts in Translation Concentration in Specialised Translation by the University of Geneva. With a long experience as a freelance translator of Legal, Technical and Administrative texts, I have been working as a translation professor in several Chilean universities since 2005; member of the Attorney General of Chile Prosecutors’ Office for the period 2014-2017.

  • Mario Helm – Director

    He holds a degree in German, Spanish and Portuguese translation (Diplomübersetzer) from the Institute of Applied Linguistics und Translatology (IALT) at the University of Leipzig (Germany). He is a teacher of German as a Foreign Language from the Herder Institute, same University. He also studied European and International Law at the University of Leipzig. He is a technician in energy electronics with formation at the Siemens AG. Freelance translator since 2005 specialized in the technical and legal texts. He also works in correction and editing of scientific texts in the area of Linguistics, Translation and Interpretation Studies for the IALT. Technical assistant in organisation of scientific conferences at f&u confirm (Leipzig, Germany). Since 2014, he has been a teacher at the Humanities and Arts Faculty in the University of Concepcion in the subjects German as a Foreign Language, Translation to German, Translation of Legal Texts and CAT Tools. Local Representative (Ortslektor) for the DAAD and a member of the COTICH since 2014.

  • Daniela Mateus de Huss – Director

    She studied Philosophy and Letters at the Universidad Ruperto Carola in Heidelberg and at the Universidad Libre of Berlin. I am a graduate of German /Spanish/Portuguese Interpretation from the Universidad Humboldt of Berlin. She masters both techniques of interpretation: simultaneous and consecutive. She is an Expert Interpreter for the Public Ministry. She also serves in the fields of diplomacy, specialty conferences, congresses, assembling and commissioning of industrial machinery, training, extradition trials, summaries and support of business delegations, etc. She has accumulated work experience in several countries such as Germany, Spain, Chile, Brazil and the United States of America. Her current period as Director of the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters (COTICH) covers from April, 2018 until April, 2020.
